Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving from Edna Manor! There are so many ways that we all celebrate Thanksgiving. Americans gather together with our family and friends around the dining table. It's likely overflowing with the usual trimmings; the plump roasted turkey at the centerpiece, and the smells are wonderful and comforting.
It’s going to be a Happy Thanksgiving today!
Yum! Stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie. What’s on your table?
There’s a toasty warm fire in the fireplace, laughter all around, perhaps holiday music, children playing games and others tossing a football. Maybe you enjoy the annual ritual of watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Okay, that is the dream. However, for many it is not reality.
What is your Thanksgiving style this year? Is this familiar?
Grandpa is a grouch on the couch, and the dog won’t stop barking. Your brother would rather be with his friends and a cousin is playing video games non-stop. The baby is fussy and cannot be comforted. Cousin Angie is a vegetarian and just wants to have a meal that she can eat. And mom, well, the day is exhausting for her. How can you help her out? Does that sound more like your “Happy Thanksgiving?” Yes, and in the end, we love it!
Those who are really less fortunate
No matter where we are and how wonderful the day is or isn’t, let’s be thankful for what we have. A good message today may be to focus on the possibilities of what may be: tomorrow, next month, or next year. Take joy in the feast, family, friends, or just fond memories.
I remember the years when I was completely alone on Thanksgiving, as I am sure some people are today. There is one evening I vividly remember in particular, although it was not Thanksgiving. My goodness … life can change quickly. I was a bit sad that night. Cooking a nice meal for myself instead of eating fast food, again, was a positive change. I put the TV on for company too.
There’s a documentary on, about the newly opened Denver International Airport. I’m seeing a familiar looking guy being interviewed. He's an airline stock analyst, who shows up sometimes on other networks too. I don't know his name. But, little did I know that a few months later, the analyst and I would meet. He's my Edward, and he and I would later marry.
The point is, you never know what is just around the corner. Celebrate each day, and never lose hope. Let's be thankful!
Make today and everyday special, not just for you, but for others too.
Have you considered volunteering? It is rewarding to help others and there are lots of organizations who could use a little help. Sometimes helping is as simple as a smile and a kind word for a fellow human being. Smile! “Happy Thanksgiving!”
Our Thanksgiving will be spent in a restaurant this year, and dropping by a friend’s house, as we have no family close by.
Wherever you are, Edward and I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
I am thankful that we live in America, and have each other!
